SPS8. Students will determine relationships among force, mass, and motion.
a. Calculate velocity and acceleration. b. Apply Newton’s three laws to everyday situations by explaining the following: Inertia Relationship between force, mass and acceleration Equal and opposite forces c. Relate falling objects to gravitational force d. Explain the difference in mass and weight. e. Calculate amounts of work and mechanical advantage using simple machines. Monday: Formula review-present different questions and determine which formula would be used and in what unit the answer should be expressed. Watch a NASA video discussing the difference between work and power. Work is force X distance. (W = F x d) Practice calculating work. Power is work/time (P = W/t). Create a chair train to discuss "work." Practice calculating work and power. work_and_power_math_skills_science.pdf Download File mechanical_advantage_math_skills_science.pdf Download File Tuesday: Identify simple machines and practice calculating mechanical advantage. Wednesday: Review for Force, Mass and Motion Post Test Thursday: Field Trip to Starcastle for STEM lesson: Music, Math and Roller Skating. Friday: Force, Mass, and Motion Post Test and Waves Pre Test on USA Test Prep.
