SPS7. Students will relate transformations and flow of energy within a system.
a. Identify energy transformations within a system (e.g. lighting of a match). b. Investigate molecular motion as it relates to thermal energy changes in terms of conduction, convection, and radiation. c. Determine the heat capacity of a substance using mass, specific heat, and temperature. d. Explain the flow of energy in phase changes through the use of a phase diagram. Project Escolar Unit- Energy: Going Beyond the Sports Drink Students working on self paced, personalized learning lessons to study the components of learning about energy. Students will be using their iPads to work through lessons, taking notes, completing labs, and activities based on the principles of learning about energy, its forms, the Law of Conservation of Energy, calculating Heat Change, and energy resources. The unit will culminate with a Team project and post assessment. Please use the study guides and reviews to prepare for the EOC. You may access these with the pallet link below.
padlet.com/angela_keel/EOCcompReview There will be time to go over these in class in the next week. EOC for Physical Science is Tuesday, May 2, 2017 SPS3. Students will distinguish the characteristics and components of radioactivity.
a. Differentiate among alpha and beta particles and gamma radiation. b. Differentiate between fission and fusion. c. Explain the process half-life as related to radioactive decay. d. Describe nuclear energy, its practical application as an alternative energy source, and its potential problems. EQs What is the difference between alpha, beta, gamma radiation and neutron radiation? Which are the most dangerous? What is the difference between nuclear fusion and nuclear fission? What does radioactive decay and "half life" mean? What are the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy? What is a "chain reaction" in nuclear terms? Monday Explore the inner workings of the nucleus, where all the energy is stored through The Particle Adventure! Complete the guided assignment while exploring. Tuesday Finish working on The Particle Adventure. Work on the Research for Unit 5 Socratic Seminar Nuclear Energy and Radioactivity. Use the worksheet to complete the research and the video for directions for the assignment. Wednesday Continue working on the socratic seminar research. Thursday Socratic Seminar Practice and discussion for expectations for the assessment. Friday Station Learning District Pre-Test and time to work on finalizing research for socratic seminar for Monday, February 13, 2017. |
