SPS6 Students will investigate the properties of solutions.
a. Describe solutions in terms of * solute/solvent * conductivity * concentration b. Observe factors affecting the rate a solute dissolves in a specific solvent. c. Demonstrate that solubility is related to temperature by constructing a solubility curve. d. Compare and contrast the components and properties of acids and bases. e. Determine whether common household substances are acidic, basic, or neutral. Monday Complete the solubility lab data and graphing the solubility of KCl. Identify the percent concentration formula and practice calculating for the solubility of KCl in 100 g of water. Complete conclusion/analysis questions. Tuesday Complete the lab MOM to the Rescue to demonstrate neutralization of a acid by a base using milk of magnesia (Mg(OH)2) , vinegar (acetic acid), and 3 M HCl. Then discuss the difference between susupension, colloid, and solutions. Start more solubility practice problems. Wednesday Work on solubility practice problems. Study and prepare for Unit 4 assessment on Friday. Thursday Review day for Unit 4 Solutions. Go over solubility practice problems and play a review game to prepare for tomorrow's assessment. Friday Unit 4 Solutions assessment.
