Unit 1: Classification of Matter
Standards: SPS2 a. Calculate density when given a means to determine a substance's mass and volume. SPS5 a. Compare and contrast the atomic/molecular motion of solids, liquids and gases. b. Relate temperature, pressure and volume of gases to the behavior of gases. SPS7 d. Explain the flow of energy in phase changes through the use of a phase diagram August 8, 2016 Phases of Matter Introduction Lab-Create a model of solids, liquids, and gases using copper shot and petri dish/small aluminum pans. Watch GPB 202 Classification of Matter, fill in the notes guide. Complete the classification of matter practice and turn in by the end of class. August 9, 2016 Lab Stations: 3 different lab stations focusing on the different aspects of matter. Refer to the classroom Periodic Table of Elements to answer questions at the end of the lab. Complete the handouts on classification of matter and states of matter. August 10, 2016 Finish Lab Stations and work on States of Matter Notes. August 11, 2016 States of Matter and Their Energy and Density of Matter. August 12, 2016 Practice Problems on Density. Prep for Density Block Lab
